4 Ways To Get Scuff Marks Out Of Cowboy Boots

Posted on

Scuff marks can make a good pair of cowboy boots look aged and possibly even ruined. Scuffs generally occur when the material is rubbed against another surface in a forceful or repetitive manner. They're a perfectly normal sign of wear and tear. Luckily, scuff marks are actually fairly simple to get out of leather boots including cowboy boots. Here are three different ways to remove those unsightly scuffs:

Try a Gum Eraser

As odd as it may sound, your first step should be to try and remove those scuffs using a simple gum eraser. Gum erasers are made of rubber and can be found at most stationery stores. They're ideal for removing graphite out of substances. Since cement and paint sometimes contain graphite, gum erasers can often remove scuffs quickly and easily. Simply rub the eraser on the boots. If the eraser starts to fall apart, this is completely natural.

Try Baking Soda and Water

If the gum eraser doesn't work, you'll likely need to use a different cleaning material. Try dipping a cloth into water then sprinkling baking soda on the cloth. Rub the scuffs with the cloth using gentle, non-abrasive motions. Use a second damp cloth to remove the baking soda when finished and dry the boots. This method should be able to get out most scuff marks unless they run deep into the leather.

Try Toothpaste

If the above two methods don't work, one other option is toothpaste. Toothpaste is a natural stain remover for many surfaces other than your teeth. To use toothpaste on scuff marks, simply place plain, white toothpaste on an old toothbrush and brush the scuff marks with the toothbrush. Brush gently, but firmly. Remove the toothpaste residue afterwards with a damp cloth and buff dry.

Try Lavender Oil

One other unique method is utilizing lavender oil to remove scuff marks from leather boots. Lavender oil can be found at most stores that sell fragrance oils and candles. Lavender oil contains natural shining elements as well as herbs that can remove some types of stains that are caused by scuff marks. To use, simply apply a few drops on the scuff marks using a cloth. Rub the cloth into the scuff marks. The oil doesn't need to be removed after use since it will naturally absorb into the leather and make it look shiny.

No matter how you scuffed up your favorite cowboy boots, use the above methods to remove those scuff marks and help those boots look good as new. If one method doesn't work from the above list, try another method. You'll stumble upon the correct method in no time. To learn more, contact a business like Cowpokes.
